1. Product Innovation: Water-Based – Solvent-Free – Bio-Based

From water-based to bio-based, we continuously develop high-performance, safe and green future-ready materials, exploring the upgrade path of the synthetic leather industry.
Traditional solvent-based polyurethane synthetic leather primarily uses organic solvents as the medium. Although the production process is relatively mature, it involves many harmful substances such as DMF (N,N-dimethylformamide), and the prolonged volatilisation of harmful gases during production has negative impacts on both human health and the environment.
Water-based polyurethane synthetic leather replaces organic solvents with water. Using water as the dispersion medium, it contains no harmful components, resulting in minimal environmental impact with eco-friendly, non-toxic and harmless properties. Additionally, water-based leather offers excellent abrasion resistance, flex resistance and hydrolysis resistance, delivering an outstanding user experience.
Since 2004, we have engaged in deep cooperation with IKEA, the internationally renowned home furnishing brand, dedicating ourselves to the R&D of water-based eco-friendly synthetic leather. By 2009, we became IKEA's designated global PU leather supplier. By 2014, ChangfengNew Materials had achieved mass production of 100% water-based ecological synthetic leather.
In terms of production environmental protection and safety, ChangfengNew Materials has also explored solvent-free synthetic leather. Through rapid reaction moulding of raw materials to form polyurethane, no solvents are used during processing. This process is not only more efficient but also significantly reduces exhaust gas and wastewater emissions.
Whether water-based or solvent-free, the source material of polyurethane is petroleum. To achieve a greener production process, ChangfengNew Materials began developing bio-based synthetic leather, using bio-based raw materials such as apple powder, industrial corn, hops, bamboo fibre and coffee grounds to gradually replace traditional chemical raw materials. Currently, PURE® bio-based series products have achieved mass production.
2. In-House Standardised Factory & Sustainable Development
In 2015, ChangfengNew Materials built China's first 100% water-based synthetic leather factory in Lishui, Zhejiang, embarking on a green factory development strategy. Through continuous improvement of the factory's green production system, we have achieved remarkable results in carbon emission reduction and energy sustainability, earning multiple government certifications as well as accreditations from international sustainability organisations including OEKO-TEX, GRS, Sedex and USDA.
The factory covers approximately 75 mu (5 hectares), with 8 planned dry and wet production lines, producing 30 million metres of water-based PU synthetic leather and 15 million metres of water-based non-woven base substrate annually.

From water-based leather to bio-based materials, every breakthrough at ChangfengNew Materials is driven by substantial investment in product R&D. To this end, we have built a first-class new materials laboratory — the PURE Testing Lab — dedicated to the technical development, quality monitoring and innovative application of water-based polymer materials. Through rigorous testing and precise data, we ensure every metre of product meets our high-quality standards.

At the PURE Testing Lab, we are equipped with professional-grade testing equipment covering multiple testing standards from the US, Europe and China, with a focus on testing physical properties such as flex resistance, abrasion resistance and high-temperature resistance. Shipments are only confirmed after passing random inspections.
